“Avenue of Hats” Event A Resounding Success

Wagga Marketplace “Avenue of Hats”:

On the morning of the 24th of April, a bevy of our most enthused RMA members converged en masse, up the Marketplace escalators, laden with hat boxes, chattering excitedly. Our inaugural “Avenue of Hats” was about to commence with an amazing array of delicious millinery creations on display and sale for our discerning, eager clientel.

The new Wagga Marketplace Arcade is a beautiful light and airy space. Marble floors, a delightful light filled atrium, potted plants and leather lounges set the scene for 10 days of trading, discussing current fashion trends with potential customers and catching up with old friends.

Racegoers arrive from far and wide for the Wagga Gold Cup, creating an extraordinary opportunity for local Milliners to ply their millinery designs. Rounding the arcade corner, passers-by were in awe at the lovely sight set before them. The older clientel, amazed by the talent and the technique, reminisced over days gone by when hats were de rigueur for both day and evening wear.

Fashionistas looked for playful floral headband confections in transeasonal leather whilst the more conservative ladies perused the displays for more sophisticated felt numbers to complement their outfits.

With eight RMA Members involved, there was an eclectic array of millinery on show, with each milliner specialising in their own millinery style. As usual, all price points were covered and business was steady and consistant. The 10 days in full retail mode provided members an enormous marketing opportunities with business cards quickly disappearing from the individual stands.

The Marketplace Instagram Competition prize on offer was 2 x VIP Tickets to the Golden Marquee which included reserved seating, admittance to course, race book, beverages for the day and buffet luncheon. The Marketplace Instagram printer drew a great deal of interest, images snapped with the gorgeous Avenue full size golden horse.

The Avenue Runway show was a highlight of the event, selected millinery paired with on trend fashion apparel from RMA Supporting Partners and  Marketplace Retailers Portmans, Trenery, Forever New and Sportscaft, with makeup for the models by Neopolean Perdis, The Body Shop and Priceline.
